Day 277

July 7, 2018                                                                                                                  Day 277

The morning was absolutely perfect out with a cool breeze, a bright shining sun and in a state of pure relaxation.  Upon crawling out of my extremely comfortable bed we made breakfast and coffee like we usually do.  After talking things through we headed in the direction of Mystic Seaport Museum in Mystic, Connecticut.  The Mystic Seaport Museum is the largest maritime museum in the United States with the only surviving ship from the whaling era.

Pulling in there was ample parking and we were able to park under a tree for some shade and then walked to the seaport.  We passed quickly through the entrance for we had bought our tickets online.  Stepping out of the building we were greeted by. a cute little seaport with the shipyard to our left and historic buildings to the right.  We headed to the shipyard where we saw the remains of a keel and were directed through the making so fan old wooden ship.  From there we saw the main shop and the beginning restoration of the Mayflower II.  We saw the Schooner L. A.  Dunton, Steamboat Sabino, Joseph Conrad and the Bark Charles W. Morgan.  It was a beautiful day and interesting to see the old buildings and ships.  I wonder what it would have been like to live in the cramped compartments of the ships at sea for months at a time.  We read up on the whaling which is always sad.  One thing mentioned how the whalers came upon a pod of whales that were so fierce in defending their young that they had to retreat.  The men then created a device to shoot from a distance and they wiped out the entire population! We humans are literally the worst creatures of all.

After spending a few hours walking around we were famished and so we walked back to the RV where I made us some sandwiches.  We were both somewhat tired and decided to leave and head back to the casino parking area.  There we spent the evening drinking, playing uno and eating our dinner.  Things seem to be going a lot better and I think I am finally getting out of the funk that I was in for the last couple days or week even.
