Day 281

July 11, 2018                                                                                             Day 281

It was another cool evening that I slept great thought; however, every morning I wake up with a stiff back and neck unlike my bed in my teardrop.  How I miss my bed and my little teardrop!  Thankfully the moods we were both in seem to have passed and we both are happier and seem to be getting along  fine like before.  For breakfast I heated us up a wrap I had made the previous evening and we had coffee.  Soon afterwards though my stomach was not feeling well at all thankfully it passed by the time we got to the visitor center.  Before pulling away from Marurices campground we dumped our tank again and filled back up with water.

Our destination was the Cape Cod Visitor Center about an hour away.  When we reached the Province  Lands Visitor Center it was raining pretty good on us and the skies had darken.  It was a cool 70 degrees with only a high of 76 degrees today; yet, even though it was raining the view was still breathtaking of a coastal sand dune area and we learned the the pilgrims landed here first and then went on to Plymouth.

After the visitor center we drove to the Herring Cove Beach which had ample parking for us and as we walked to the beach the scenery became even more beautiful.  I would like to mention that we tried to go see a lighthouse at another location within the park; however, when we pulled up the to ranger stand to be let in the guy there was very rude and would not let us park.  He said no RV's were allowed and would not even let us get a word out practically to ask any questions! Mind you the parking lot was huge and within our view was a truck with a camper topper on and was the same length as our camper.    In either case, the day was absolutely perfect!  The sun was shining but the cool breeze warranted a long sleeve shirt.  We laid around on the beach for a few hours noticing how we were the only straight couple and all around us were men couples.  I am completely fine with that I just don't think I have ever seen so many couples in one place.  Most of the them were quite built with tattoos all over their bodies and all were dressed quite nicely.

Around 15:00 we left to fill upon propane ($41.00) and to hike the Sand Dune Trail, a 2.4 miles loop over impressive sand dunes to the beach.  It was so beautiful and challenging walking in sand.  When we reached the beach we had the entire beach to ourselves.  When does that ever happen?!  I can tell you that the feeling of having an entire beach to oneself is quite remarkable and a serene feeling.  We spent a long time walking along the beach with our feet in the ocean collecting rocks and skate egg capsules "mermaids purses" while observing the dead crabs, fish skeletons and other random items that have washed up on shore.  Soon the sun was making its descent so we hiked back to the RV and drove back to Herring Cove Beach to watch the sunset.

There was music playing in the pavilion and a throng of people were circling a bomb fire on the beach; yet, we stayed further down on the outskirts to avoid the crowds.  After making a few trips to the camper we set up a blanket and ate our dinner not eh beach, drinking wine from a water bottle and watching a gay couple get married on the beach which was quite romantic.  All of this transpired as the sunset in front of us over the ocean.  We were all bundled up laying on the blanket, for the temperature had dropped, watching as the colors of the water and sky blended into one beautiful painting.  We had planned to lay on the beach watching the stars until midnight but the mosquitos were so bad we left.  Jason had spotted public parking earlier when we were driving around and so we headed there.  I asked the parking enforcement officer if we could stay and he said we could just for the night.   Oddly enough it was at the St. Peters Cemetery off of Shank Painter Road if that is not ominous enough.
